Taiwan’s offshore wind sector just reached a major milestone. The Hai Long 2a project has received 21 massive three-legged jacket foundations – each standing 90 metres tall and weighing about 2,000 tons.
Built by Century Wind Power, these jackets are the largest and heaviest ever produced for a Taiwanese wind farm. Their delivery is more than a technical feat – it’s proof that Taiwan’s local supply chain is capable of delivering world-class offshore infrastructure.
“Our collaboration with Century Wind Power has been essential to the project’s progress and proves the strength and reliability of Taiwan’s local industry,” said Tim Kittelhake, CEO of Hai Long.
Jacket foundations are critical for offshore wind farms in deep waters, where monopiles are no longer sufficient. With their three-legged structure, they provide stability for large turbines even in harsh marine conditions.
Delivering jackets of this size requires precise engineering, advanced welding, and strict quality control. For Taiwan, the successful completion marks not only a technical achievement, but also a strategic step towards energy independence and a stronger offshore supply chain in Asia-Pacific.
The Hai Long project is part of a much bigger story: Asia-Pacific is becoming one of the fastest-growing regions in offshore wind. Taiwan, South Korea and Japan are heavily investing in new capacity, with the aim to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.
For contractors and developers, this means increased demand for:

Hai Long is a 1,022 MW offshore wind development off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan. It is split into three sites – Hai Long 2a, 2b and 3 – and will be among the largest offshore wind farms in Asia-Pacific once complete.
Once operational, the Hai Long wind farm will generate enough clean electricity for more than one million Taiwanese households.
Jacket foundations are used in deeper waters where monopile foundations are not feasible. They provide the stability needed to support heavy turbines in rough marine conditions.
The first power was produced in 2025. Full commercial operation is expected between 2026 and 2027.
